Broken fire hydrant floods Mountain View shopping center

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – A vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant in the Mountain View area overnight, sending water into the air and roadways.

The vehicle hit the hydrant located in a Home Depot parking lot in the 4400 block of Imperial Avenue late Sunday night. The broken hydrant created a 50-foot geyser, which flooded the shopping center and drenched dozens of pallets and plants in the area.

Firefighters worked to shut off the water around 10:00 p.m. Sunday, after the water was flowing for nearly 50 minutes.

Police said the driver fled the scene after accident. No injuries were reported.
