SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego County has partnered with the non-profit National Conflict resolution Center in an effort to keep at-risk youth out of jail.

With recent high-profile cases of racial, ethnic and political tensions dominating the news, a national nonprofit based in San Diego is taking an innovative approach to proactively manage conflict with the goal of preventing issues from escalating to divisiveness and potential violence.

NCRC's program, the first of its kind in the U.S. helps youth in our community by providing them with skills to make better decisions, stay out of prison and get them back on track. NCRC's program addresses this by offering young people the opportunity to be part of the solution giving them the chance to practice more positive decision-making.

NCRC's Center for Community Cohesion will continue to provide the communications tools to deal with and manage conflict to unite the Southeast San Diego community and beyond. NCRC has a long-term goal of opening additional Centers for Community Cohesion around San Diego in future years.
