North County residents sign petition against train track fines

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A group of residents will turn over a petition, with hundreds of signatures, expressing outrage over the issuing of fines for those crossing the railroads tracks along North County beaches.

Residents say they do it to have access to the beaches there, but law enforcement is now issuing fines for those who are caught.

The North County Transit District (NCTD) says the beach access issue is a matter of safety, trying to keep people from being hit by trains.

Residents say an alternative method to cross the tracks needs to be made and that the fines are unfair.
