SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Local community and government leaders announced new legislation Monday morning to stop military veterans from being deported.
Rep. Juan Vargas, D-San Diego plans to introduce three bills to congress in the coming days. The legislation is designed to prevent immigrant service members from being deported and also help those who have been deported get access to health care and other services.
Supporters of the bills say the immigration system has failed thousands of veterans.
The bills would also ensure service members receive information about naturalization while still serving.
San Diego County again will face extreme heat and high surf beginning Monday and lasting through Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw appeared conflicted in early May on whether to stop families from being separated at the border.
