San Diego County Fair 2017 Theme: How the West was Fun

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - "How the West was Fun" was unanimously chosen Tuesday as the theme for the 2017 San Diego County Fair, which will run from Friday, June 2 through Tuesday, July 4.

The good old days of the Wild West and all of its fanfare will be brought to life at the Fair next summer, giving fairgoers the chance to become part of the Old West with all the fun only the Fair can provide including favorite foods, fast and furious rides and games, exhibits and entertainment.

During the 1800's and early part of the 20th century thousands of pioneers went westward in search of land, gold & silver, religious freedom, better lives and sometimes, to escape the law.

"How the West was Fun offers many opportunities for our guests to have fun, learn something new, be entertained and enjoy brand new features inspired by the period of time known as the Wild West," said Deputy General Manager Katie Mueller as she presented the theme to the board.

"We are excited about all of the ways "How the West was Fun" and the Old West can be integrated into fair activities," she said. " There will be something for everyone at next year's fair."

The 2017 San Diego County Fair and "How the West was Fun" will open at 4 p.m., Friday, June 2 and run through Tuesday, July 4. The Fair will be closed Mondays except July 3 and the first three Tuesdays.

The San Diego County Fair is the largest annual event in San Diego County and one of the ten largest Fairs in North America, drawing more than 1.6 million visitors annually.
