Rattlesnake Alert: Three dogs bitten by rattlesnake in Jamul

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A Jamul woman is on edge after three of her dogs were bitten by a rattlesnake.

Hillary Dixon's beloved Labrador, Nicky, is on the road to recovery after days in critical condition.

Nicky's 10-month-old daughter and 17-month-old Honey were also bitten by the rattlesnake.

Dixon knows rattlesnakes can be a problem so she even put up a special fence to try and keep them out. Some how a three-foot rattler made it on to her property and nearly killed her best friends.

Dixon took a shovel and hit the snake over the head - decapitating it. A day later, the snake was still moving.

The County Department of Animal Services said that is not unusual because snakes have a very primitive central nervous system. Even after decapitation, the head still has the reflex to bite.

Dixon's vet bills are in the thousands and getting bigger. Friends have set up a GoFundMe page, and you too can help.
