Larry and the Cubs: Miles Himmel on how his dad would have loved this

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A historic game three of the World Series is underway at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs take on the Cleveland Indians.

It's the first home Word Series game for the Cubs in 71-years, but it's especially meaningful to KFMB's Larry Himmel's son, Miles.

Growing up with Larry Himmel as your dad had its requirements - you had to be a Cubs fan.

Every summer, for as long as Miles Himmels can remember, he and his dad visited Wrigley Field in Chicago where Larry grew up.

One time, Larry was so frustrated with the Cubs he disowned the team and threw away all of his memorabilia.

Larry was born in 1946, one year after the last time the Cubs appeared in the World Series. Larry passed away just two years shy of them doing it again

In his honor, Miles and his mom were in Chicago last week when the Cubs clinched the National League title.

A historic moment, as well as a somber one.

Miles said despite the heartbreak, deep down his dad lived and breathed the Cubs. Some believe their success this year can be attributed to Larry's love of the game.
