Son of slain SDPD officer honored at Homecoming

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A bright moment for the son of a slain San Diego police officer. Jonathan DeGuzman was named Homecoming King at Otay Ranch High School, just months after his father lost his life in the line of duty.

"It was pretty overwhelming. I was shocked. It's the best high school moment that I've had so far and really loved it," said Jonathan (Jed) DeGuzman.

Homecoming Queen Katriz Trinidad was not surprised. "It's amazing because he honestly deserved it. I left like it was a given. To be able to partner with him in this homecoming court, it just feels great," she said.

Even classmates who barely know Jonathan said he serves to be Homecoming King.

San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman congratulated the Homecoming King by tweeting a picture of Jonathan.

While his classmates and family are proud, Jonathan knows his father is watching - with a big smile.

"People have said my dad is proud and I am proud I am making my dad proud," he said.
