Some unusual guns appear at gun buyback event

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Four dozen firearms were confiscated Saturday in the Palm City neighborhood during a gun buyback program sponsored by law enforcement and community leaders, according to police.

A total of 22 handguns, 16 rifles and 10 shotguns were turned over to police in exchange for gift cards, according to San Diego Police Lt. Ernesto Servin.

The cache included a walking cane rifle, an antique Winchester, a fully automatic rifle, two sawed-off shotguns and two handguns with their serial numbers filed off. The guns were safely turned in with no questions asked, Servin said.

Participants received $50 worth of credit for a pistol, $75 for a shotgun or hunting rifle and $100 for a military-style assault rifle.

The San Diego County District Attorney's Office funded the gift cards.

The event was held at the Ocean View Hill Church on Palm Avenue in partnership with Casa Familiar and officers from the San Diego Police Department Southern Division.
