SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A pep rally on the campus of San Diego High School Saturday to urge people to vote "Yes" on Measure "I."

If voters approve the measure, San Diego High School will remain where it's been, for the past 134 years.

The school sits on Balboa Park land and the lease expires in 2024.

If the measure is voted down, the school will be forced to close, and the land will revert back to Balboa Park.

Councilman David Alvarez says that would have a huge negative effect.

"Not just kids downtown, not just outside downtown, but North Park, South Park, Golden Hill, Sherman Heights, Logan Heights. Over 2,000 students a year come through these doors, Alvarez said.

San Diego High School is the oldest high school in San Diego and one of the oldest in the state.
