Two men accused of killing Oceanside teen girl

Posted: Updated:

VISTA (CNS) - Two 20-year-old Oceanside gang members accused in the fatal shooting of a teenage girl at a park in rival gang territory pleaded not guilty Wednesday to murder and attempted murder charges.

Deputy District Attorney Shawn Tafreshi alleged that Daniel Manuel Ramos and Elias Isai Ramos, who are not related, went to Balderrama Park in the early morning hours of Sept. 3, looking for a rival to kill.

The prosecutor said 15-year-old Annabelle Flores and a friend were on a play structure in the park when Daniel Ramos, in an unprovoked attack, allegedly fired at both victims, killing Annabelle.

Tafreshi said Elias Ramos was there to back up his fellow gang member. Annabelle Flores' friend ran away and was not injured, the prosecutor said.

Police previously said it appeared Annabelle Flores was targeted and the shooting was not believed to have been random.

The defendants were in jail on unrelated charges when they were re-arrested in connection with Flores' murder, authorities said.

Daniel Ramos was ordered held on $3 million bail, and Elias Ramos had his bail set at $2 million.

A readiness conference was set for Nov. 14 and a preliminary hearing for Nov. 17.

The defendants face life in prison if convicted, Tafreshi said.
