Point Loma woman says she was assaulted by solicitor

POINT LOMA (CBS 8) - A Point Loma woman on Monday had a shocking encounter with an aggressive solicitor who came knocking on her door.

Anna Gallagher lives in Point Loma and makes it very clear she does not like unexpected visitors or solicitors at her door.

When a man rang her doorbell, she did not respond. According to Anna, the man began to pound her screen door.

"It is not okay to bang on people's door. It's not okay to be rude and vulgar when you come to someone's house," she said.

Anna said she told the man to leave.

Anna said she called out to the man at the door who did not have a police registration card displayed - which is required by law. He wouldn't even show her a brochure.

"When I asked them to leave, they became very rude, insulting and using four letter language - which I did not care for," she said.

Tired of solicitors not obeying the rules, Anna went out with her cellphone to snap a picture of the solicitors.

"I was trying to take a picture of some brochure he had and he pushed me and grabbed my phone, threw it to the ground and started stomping on it with his foot," said Anna.

Anna said she felt she put her safety in danger and does not encourage going after the solicitor - neither do police.

Police suggest, if you don't want to answer the door and don't want the person there to think that no one is home, say something like "We can't come to the door now," or "We don't open the door to strangers."

The victim said the solicitor was with another man in a white sedan with a nice front-end.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
