CARLSBAD (CBS 8) - The Carlsbad Police Department has a new tool to help keep its K-9 officers safe.
A local charity has donated ballistic vests to protect the dogs in dangerous situations.
The vests were donated to the Carlsbad Police Department by the K-9 Guardians Foundation.
The foundation is a newly formed non-profit in San Diego County which aims to provide dogs who are placed in the line of duty the protection they deserve.
The vests themselves were provided by Maximum K-9, and are rated by the Department of Justice as the highest level of ballistic protection for canines.
