LOS ANGELES (AP) — The unclaimed remains of 1,430 people have been buried in a Los Angeles County cemetery.

The ashes were interred Wednesday during an interfaith memorial attended by dozens of people.

County Supervisor Don Knabe says some of the people were homeless, many were poor and some had no families.

The county holds unclaimed remains for about two years before conducting annual mass burials.
