Marine aircraft makes precautionary landing in Pine Valley

Posted: Updated:

PINE VALLEY (CNS) - A possible equipment problem prompted the crew of a military aircraft based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to make a safe precautionary landing in the East County highlands Thursday.

The pilots of the tiltrotor MV-22 Osprey set it down in an open area in Pine Valley about 3:45 p.m., after onboard instruments indicated a potential need for maintenance, according to USMC public-affairs officials.

The emergency landing resulted in no reported injuries or property damage.

The crew -- assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 166, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing -- was taking part in a routine training flight when the mechanical concern arose, according to Marine Corps officials.

The Osprey was expected to remain at the makeshift landing site overnight as personnel look it over and perform any necessary maintenance.
