Family of 8 shares their adoption success story

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A local family of eight is giving thanks for the many blessings in their lives blessings that include six healthy and happy children.

Christy and Matt's five children are Sterling, Carson, Ashton, Liam and Ryder. During this interview Christy was four days overdue with their 6th baby. And about 12 hours after our interview, baby Indigo was born, giving them a full house.

“So now, we will have six, six and under,” said Christy.

“We had this boat named adventure for two. Funny because now we're on this adventure for eight, said Matt. “There are some rules in place about your home, including, you can't live on a boat.”

So they moved into a house, and soon the couple and their two biological kids, Ryder and Liam, welcomed Ashton into their home and a few weeks later came Carson. The four boys are now brothers for life with little sister Sterling and baby Indigo, adding some sisterly love.

“It's been really fun to watch them have empathy and compassion for each other and become best friends,” said Christy. “Our two, four-year-olds will run down the alley holding hands with other yelling we're best friends! And it just touches your heart like nothing else.”

Carson was in foster care for 738 days, Ashton for 776 days, but now they are part of a loving forever home and their adoptions were finalized in November.

Matt and Christy said it's been a wonderful journey and encourage others to consider adopting through San Diego County.

“Go to an orientation, because they're going to answer a lot of your questions, you don't have to own your own home,” said Matt. “There's a lot of things, you might be disqualifying yourself unnecessarily. At least find out what it takes, and here's the thing, man, these kids are extraordinary and they need extraordinary families.”
