Vista Sex Assault Investigation: Dog chases off attacker

Posted: Updated:

VISTA (CNS) - Authorities were on the lookout Tuesday for a man who jumped a teenage pedestrian as she was walking her dog on a North County roadside and sexually assaulted her before being chased away by the canine.

The man attacked the 19-year-old from behind in the 700 block of Grapevine Road in Vista at about 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to sheriff's officials.

The assailant pushed the woman to the ground and began groping her as she struggled and called out to her dog, Lt. Dan Brislin said. The animal responded by barking, growling and confronting the assailant, sending him fleeing to the east on Planet Road.

The man, who also might have been bitten by the dog, was described as in his mid-20s and about 5-feet-6 inches tall and 170 pounds. He was wearing dark-colored clothing, including a hooded jacket and knit cap.

Anyone with information about the assault was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could earn a reward of up to $1,000.
