SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An 80-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and killed Thursday night while crossing a street in Rancho Penasquitos.

The man was struck about 6 p.m. at the intersection of Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard and Calle de las Rosas, according to Sgt. Michael Tansey of the San Diego Police Department.

The man was walking across Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard outside of the marked crosswalk when a 60-year-old woman driving a Honda Odyssey in the northbound No. 1 lane of Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard struck him, Tansey said.

The woman had a green traffic signal as she approached the intersection, Tansey said.

The man was taken by paramedics to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where he died of his injuries.

The woman remained at the scene and drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash, Tansey said.
