Man hospitalized with multiple stab wounds

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A 25-year-old man with stab wounds who was seen running through an apartment complex near San Diego State University Sunday morning, turned up at a nearby hospital with serious injuries to his chest and back.

Police were called to the apartments in the 5400 block of Adobe Falls Road at about 7:30 a.m., Officer Gary Bowen said. After police received the call of an injured man running without a shirt with a stab wound to his back, they found a long trail of blood from the sidewalk to the parking lot and pool of blood inside the unit doorway but no one was inside.

"Almost simultaneously, we were getting information that a stab wound victim showed up at Alvarado Hospital and was subsequently transferred to Mercy Hospital,” said San Diego Police Department Sgt. Clinton Leisz.

The victim was stabbed in the shoulder and back and suffered a punctured lung and punctured kidney. He underwent surgery.

"We talked to the victim, and he was largely unhelpful in the investigation,” continued Sgt. Leisz.

Police questioned neighbors but didn't have a suspect description.

"Some of the earlier reporters reported a male chasing after this individual with a stab wound or vice versa,” Sgt. Leisz said.

Twenty year resident Sue Cole woke up to her dog Sophie barking relentlessly.

"I saw like seven cop cars out here, my building is surrounded by police tape and evidence markers in front of my steps,” said Cole, adding that she's not sure what caused the bloody brawl outside the home.

The victim was recovering in the intensive care unit in stable but guarded condition, according to Bowen, who did not release the victim's name.

Anyone with information in this case, is asked to call the San Diego Police Department.
