Some people couldn't wait to get back to the malls

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) — After doing some serious shopping before Christmas, many have returned to the scene of the crime.

"I'm buying a new house and we're supposed to close in a few days so I'm looking for Christmas décor," explained Zheilla Asgari, a shopper in University City.

"Lines are a little long, but it seems like every store has every cash register open at least," said another shopper Melissa Ramirez.

Some headed back to the mall to return gifts they may not have wanted. With packed parking lots, the Westfield University City mall also brought out many wanting a bargain.

"Definitely for the sales, after Christmas sales, I always usually go," explained shopper Nadia Lugue who said she saved 70 percent at Bath and Body Works.

Big box stores' end of year sales were also a huge draw.

"Nordstrom was great. They put out some samples," said Linnea McDonald. "[Prices on] shoes were crazy."

The discounts allowed people to load up on what they didn't get for Christmas.

Whether it was a super sale or simply taking an additional 40 percent off, many couldn't help but stop and smell the sale at Lush, where the deal was "buy one, get one free."

"Picked up a lot of bath bombs and shower gels and stuff," said shopper Ashley Jackson of filling up on her favorites.

Shops have been offering customer support in exchanging or returning gifts.

About 2/3 of the nation either shopped online or in stores for after Christmas sales.
