REDDING, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in Northern California say a 7-year-old boy has drowned in Lake Shasta.
The Shasta County Sheriff's Office says the child's family was vacationing on a houseboat when they couldn't find him Saturday morning.
They discovered the boy's flip flops floating near Shasta Caverns and called authorities.
Searchers found the child dead about 30 minutes later in 17 feet of water.
Authorities say the child was not wearing a life jacket and was not required by law to be wearing one.
Officials did not immediately identify the boy, but said the family was from Salinas.
