Surfers rushed ashore as shark scare halts World Surf League competition

Posted: Updated:

SOUTH AFRICA (NEWS 8) - A shark scare led to competitors being plucked from the water at the men's World Surf League event at Jeffreys Bay in South Africa on Tuesday.

Competition for the day was halted after a 9-foot shark was seen breaching the water close to where surfers were waiting to catch the wave.

The athletes were quickly transported onto rescue boats where they waited for the shark's departure.

Nobody was injured and the competition continued.

Almost two years ago, Mick Fanning, was attacked by a shark in the same venue.
