Island escape comes to you at annual Tahitian Heiva Festival

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - If you’re looking for an island escape this weekend you don’t have to go far.

The Tahitian cultural festival Heiva San Diego 2017 is coming to Golden Hall for two days this weekend, bringing you the sights, sounds and flavors of Tahiti and other French Polynesian cultures.

Be sure to wear your dancing shoes and pants best suited for rhythmic hip shaking because you will hear drums and you will feel the urge to boogie down.

If you’re self-conscious about rocking the dance floor to Tahitian-style tunes and don’t think your body rolls quite as well as the natives, don’t be alarmed. News 8’s Dan Cohen and Heather Myers proved that the Heiva dance style is quite easy to learn during their very own lesson on the Morning Extra set.

Though Dan and Heather sure can dance, neither will be in the running for Miss Heiva San Diego 2017. The winner of the competition will be announced at the festival on August 5 and 6.
