The Latest: Boat that belonged to Kennedy sells for $75,000

NEW YORK (AP) — A mahogany speedboat that belonged to President John F. Kennedy has sold for $75,000 at an auction in New York City.

A flight suit that belonged to CIA operative Francis Gary Powers sold for $2,750.

The sale Saturday at Guernsey's included a wide array of Camelot offerings.

The core of the sale comes from the collections of Lt. Henry Hirschy, who worked at the White House; Jacqueline Kennedy's personal secretary, Mary Gallagher; and Powers.

Powers was a CIA pilot who was arrested after his spy plane was shot down over Soviet airspace in 1960.

Hot memorabilia with a Cold War theme is being featured at a New York auction, including property of the late President John F. Kennedy and CIA operative Francis Gary Powers.

The sale Saturday at Guernsey's includes a wide array of Camelot offerings such as Kennedy's restored 17-foot mahogany speedboat.

The vessel is expected to sell for between $100,000 and $150,000.

The core of the sale comes from the collections of Lt. Henry Hirschy, who worked at the White House; Jacqueline Kennedy's personal secretary, Mary Gallagher; and Powers.

Powers, a pilot for the CIA's U-2 program, was arrested after his spy plane was shot down over Soviet airspace in 1960.
