SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - While President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are celebrating the passage of the GOP tax reform bill, Democratic politicians who weren't in favor of the plan, like California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-78), are left wondering how they can ease the perceived burden on their constituents.

Assemblymember Gloria, a native San Diegan, joined News 8's Dan Cohen on Thursday to share his reaction to the passage of the bill and explain what some of the changes mean for people living in America's Finest City and the state of California.

Gloria maintains that the bill is not good for our city or state's residents, and points toward the fact that 4 out of 5 of the state's federal representatives voted against it as evidence.

He called the bill "particularly impactful" for middle-class families in high-tax states with high costs of living, like California, and worried about what will happen come 2025 when certain tax breaks aimed at the middle class expire while others aimed at the ultra-rich remain permanent. GOP representatives have expressed that the expiration is only in place due to a Senate rule and that they would fight to make sure the breaks stay, but Gloria said that he wouldn't "take that to the bank."

Watch the entire interview to hear more of Assemblyman Gloria's thought s on the bill.
