Day of Play – Bike Powered Smoothies & healthier choices

(SAN DIEGO) - United Healthcare volunteers will join Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center for its Day of Play on Saturday, July 14th from 10am - 1pm at the Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center in National City.

Day of Play brings together more than 400 adults and kids for a day of activities to encourage healthy eating and getting regular exercise. This day-long event will be filled with tasty food demonstrations, gardening session and arts and craft for kids of all ages!

United Healthcare will bring their popular stationary “smoothie bikes” equipped with blenders for kids and their families to pedal and create nutritious fruit smoothies. United Healthcare mascot Dr. Health E. Hound will join employees and volunteers as they cheer on participants.

The smoothie bikes are a hands-on tool to help people connect an active lifestyle with healthy eating. Attendees will receive recipe cards to make their own healthy smoothies along with other information to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

    Deputies shot a man Monday afternoon during a confrontation at an East County apartment complex. The man was transported to Sharp Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

    Authorities called in a mobile DNA lab and anthropologists to help identify the dead as the search went on for victims of the most destructive wildfire in California history. The overall death toll from the outbreak of fires at both ends of the state stood at 25 Sunday and appeared likely to rise.

     
    The dead were found in burned-out cars, in the smoldering ruins of their homes, or next to their vehicles, apparently overcome by smoke and flames before they could jump in behind the wheel and escape. In some cases, there were only charred fragments of bone, so small that coroner's investigators...
