California Deputy Shoots Man Who Fired on Crowd After Learning Ice Cube Concert Was Sold Out

Posted: Updated:

A man erupted in anger after he was told there were no more tickets to an Ice Cube concert at a California park complex, pulling a gun and opening fire on a crowd before he was shot by a sheriff’s deputy, according to reports.

As the ticket window dispute intensified Sunday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Daniel Elizarras, fired a semi-automatic handgun at concertgoers.

A deputy responding to the incident returned fire, striking Elizarras.

Elizarras was taken to nearby Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. He is expected to survive his injuries, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

No additional injuries were reported.

“We take consolation in the fact that no patrons, officers or security personnel were injured in the incident,” the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club said in a statement to The Associated Press.

While many fans left as a result of the shooting, Sunday’s concert went on as scheduled.

On Monday, Ice Cube tweeted: "I feel bad for the people who left the show, but I totally understand. Moral of the story: Come see ya homie Cube ... but leave the strap at home."
