EL CAJON (NEWS 8) — A car smashed into a bank in Rancho San Diego on Monday when the driver reportedly mistook the gas pedal for the brake.

The woman driving hit the gas by mistake as she was approaching the Bank of America branch located at 2930 Jamacha Road.

The car jumped the parking curb and ended up entirely inside the building before coming to a stop.

The driver and her passengers – an adult male and a young child – were uninjured and were able to get out of the car before firefighters arrived.

A customer at a bank ATM was just a foot or two from where the car came to rest but was uninjured as well.

The bank's doors were knocked off their hinges and the glass panels shattered but the building sustained no major damage.

The bank was closed following the incident.
