SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8/CNS) — Eight people, including three children, were displaced Thursday following a house fire in City Heights. One adult also suffered minor injuries during the incident, according to officials.
Dispatchers received reports of the blaze shortly just before 1 a.m. on Marlborough Avenue near Orange Avenue and caused an estimated $120,000 in damage, officials said.
Crews rolled up to the scene and found flames in the garage of the single-story house, San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Alec Phillipp said. The fire was contained to the garage and living area inside the home before firefighters knocked down the flames around 30 minutes later.
One adult was sent to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest with minor injuries, Phillipp said.
"On a fire like this we had significant fire that was in the attic, so our crews went up top and cut holes in the roof to let the heat and smoke out and get better visibility aid in our suppression efforts," said Capt. Chad Willenberg of San Diego Fire-Rescue.
Three adults and five children were displaced by the fire, but did not require assistance from the American Red Cross because they found other living arrangements, Phillipp said.
The blaze caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the structure and $20,000 in damage to personal property, Phillipp said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
