Navy Leap Frogs land at Chula Vista High School homecoming game

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) – Special guests dropped in Friday night on the homecoming game at Chula Vista High School.

The U.S. Navy Leap Frogs parachuted on the football field to the delight of the crowd, but Mother Nature’s lightning display ultimately spoiled the fun.

Cassandra, who is a student at Chula Vista High School said, “It’s an honor just having those representatives come by and have their presence here – so much respect to them.”

Chief Luke Howard-Vesci has been parachuting for the military for the past ten years, but joined the team one year ago. “We jump into football games, basketball games, air shows and elementary schools. Every jump is different and challenging and it’s interesting at the same time,” he said.

Friday night’s storm held out for the parachute team, but right before the halftime show, rain and lighting took center stage – leading to the postponement of the game.

Chief Howard-Vesci said the U.S. Navy hopes to do more jumps in San Diego while also using the jumps as a recruiting tool. “Our goal is to inspire the next generation to answer the call to military service.”

The postponed game will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m.
