Yes on Prop 6 Campaign kicks off gas tax repeal rallies

The Yes on Prop 6 Gas Tax Repeal Campaign hit the road Wednesday for two weeks of "Rush Hour Rallies."

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) - The Yes on Prop 6 Gas Tax Repeal Campaign hit the road Wednesday for two weeks of "Rush Hour Rallies."

The rallies are expected to be held in every major city in California to help support the campaign with thousands of supporters at each location, making the case why Californians should vote Yes on 6.

Carl DeMaio, chairman of Yes on 6 Campaign, and various elected officials and candidates riding the bus from stop-to-stop will be speaking at the rallies.

"We're traveling throughout the state to make sure that despite the false and misleading label put on the ballot by politicians, Yes On 6 is the Gas Tax Repeal -- and by voting Yes on 6, they're reducing their cost of living and holding the Sacramento politicians accountable," said Carl DeMaio, chairman of the Yes on 6 campaign.

The 12-cent per gallon tax on unleaded fuel went into effect earlier this year.

It will raise an estimated $5 billion per year for transportation infrastructure and repairs across California.

Critics argue those funds are not specifically earmarked for road repair and will cost drivers hundreds of dollars.

A bus tour will bring the campaign to repeal the gas tax to some of the hardest-hit communities throughout the state, and will pick up elected officials and candidates along the way.

A Yes vote on Prop 6 would eliminate the gas tax, while a No on Prop 6 would keep it in place.

An event was held at De Anza Cove Park Wednesday morning.
