SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 65-year-old woman was seriously injured Friday when she fell while riding an electric scooter with family members in the Marina area of San Diego.
The victim was injured about 1:45 p.m. in the 900 block of Kettner Boulevard, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.
"The rider lost control, overturned and fell to the asphalt," Heims said. "She sustained a fracture to her right femur."
The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life- threatening injuries.
Electric scooters have become a contentious issue in some cities where critics say they are being used unsafely and left to clutter sidewalks and other public spaces.
