San Diego dance gamer goes viral

He is quick. He is focused. Now, video of his fancy footwork has gone viral.

SAN DIEGO (NEWS 8) – He is quick. He is focused. Now, video of his fancy footwork has gone viral.

Roberto Redoble, who is 29-years-old, is a pro at dance games and he shows off his moves at the Corvette Diner in Liberty Station.

Redoble said that while he has a lot fun, his main goal is to get people moving. “In one video there were 4,000 steps in six minutes.” He said he plays “Pump It Up” at least four to five times a week. “My typical routine is go to work, go to the gym, go here and burn out and go home.”

Redoble’s interest in rhythm action games started in 2005, when he bought Dance Revolution to help him become a better football player. He said his mom beat him at first, but then he got better and faster. “I like to call it a treadmill with an objective because you have to follow all the arrows,” he said.

Redoble told News 8 he was obese as a child, weighing 165 pounds. He earned his bachelor’s degree in nutritional science from Cal Poly Pomona and hopes he can motivate his audience.

“This game makes me feel I can influence people like nine-year-old, ten-year-old kids that are struggling with weight loss and they need to find a way to get healthy but they don't know what to do.”

Redoble met his girlfriend, who is top dance game competitor, and friend Seth Sanchez through dancing. “Most people don't know about the genre and we like to introduce them to the game and you can totally play this at any level,” said Sanchez.

Former Corvette Diner arcade employee, Alondra Zepeda, who now works in the diner, said she didn’t take the game seriously, but after watching Redoble she is addicted and more active. “Now it's more about the people and the community.”

Roberto said being a certified health coach, he hopes he can gain momentum each step at a time. “I was not born to do well at this game and I work hard to get to this level and I want to be an inspiration to those trying out.”
