SANTEE (NEWS 8) - Firefighters were called to a home in Santee after a large construction truck crashed into the front of the unoccupied house.
It happened Monday just after 9 a.m. in the 9200 block of Padre Lane. The driver of the truck lost control coming down a hill before slamming into the structure.
The impact caused heavy damage to the single-story home, according to authorities.
"I heard this noise that sounded like a big rig had fallen over so I ran out as fast as I could," said neighbor Harmony McFarland. "I started yelling in the house to see if anyone was home."
As emergency personnel started searching for victims, the home's tenants arrived at the scene and confirmed no one was inside.
The driver also escaped uninjured.
Crews then worked to figure out how to get the truck out of the home without causing additional damage.
Richard Brawn the owner of the home rushed to the scene after his tenants called him.
"To see this truck inside the house is totally beyond anything I was imagining," he said.
While the home for now is unlivable, that's not what Brawn was worried about.
"It's just property damage," he said. "The driver didn't get hurt. Nobody got hurt. It can be fixed or bulldozed and rebuilt."
A building inspector and utility crews were called in to assess the damages and check for any public safety hazards resulting from the crash, Lt.
Dave Perkins said.
No injuries were reported. The driver has not been cited, according to police.
He told investigators that he believed his brakes had failed, but the cause remains under investigation.
