Oceanside couple finds loaded gun lying in the road in their neighborhood

A man out for an overnight jog in Oceanside Tuesday tripped over a shotgun lying in the road, according to police.

OCEANSIDE (NEWS 8) - A couple walking their dog in Oceanside Tuesday came across a shotgun and a .357 revolver lying in the road, according to police.

The couple says they saw the guns lying in the road in the 4700 block of Marblehead Bay Drive.

The couple, who asked News 8 to only identify them as Travis and Shanyn, said they are well versed in fire-arms and knew to immediately call 911.

“It’s not everyday you find something like that – especially when the serial numbers are so visible on them,” said Shanyn.

Oceanside police said the handgun was cocked and ready to fire. If Shanyn and Travis had not found the pair of weapons, it would not have taken anything more than a kick or a car running it over for it to fire.

“Not everyone knows how to work around a firearm so knowing it was cocked and anything could set it off was the scariest part of finding them,” said Shanyn.

According to the couple, the neighbors that own the home where the guns were found in front of knew nothing about them and did not even know they were there.

Travis and Shanyn said they are just glad they found them before kids did or even a dog.
