Retailers Banking On Cyber Monday Sales

Updated:
Shoppers are logging on today for the busiest internet shopping day of the year. Retailers have high hopes for Cyber Monday after a better than expected turnout on Black Friday.\r\n\r\nFrom Thanksgiving through Sunday, 172 million shoppers across the U.S. spent $41 billion, and more deep discounts online could help keep stores in the black. \r\n\r\nIf you missed Black Friday, Cyber Monday is here. Eight out of 10 shoppers plan on looking for gifts online. Cyber Monday has become so famous for good deals, many consumers are avoiding Black Friday altogether.\r\n\r\nRon LaPierre of the website Pricegrabber.com says more and more consumers are looking forward to Cyber Monday. Almost 85 million people are expected to shop online throughout today. \r\n\r\nAccording to website Shopzilla, nearly 84 percent of retailers are offering special promotions this year. LaPierre says consumers are looking for practical gifts like small appliances and basic clothing items. But there are also huge online discounts on electronics and toys. So does the popularity of online shopping mean consumers will head to their PC instead of the mall?\r\n\r\n"One of the things in our research that jumped out is that 55 percent of the people who responded said they would be spending a majority of their holiday budget online this year, and when we asked the same question last year, it was 45 percent. So it's certainly continuing to move from offline to online, but it's never going to go completely away," LaPierre said.\r\n
