A 67-year-old woman was killed early today when her vehicle crashed into a tree, a wall and a fence in La Jolla, police said.

La Mesa resident Ann Joan Baxter was westbound in the 700 block of Nautilus Street around 2:30 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, her sedan veered off the street, onto the sidewalk and then struck a palm tree and a concrete wall, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

The gold Ford Taurus then veered back across the street and struck a small fence surrounding a house in the 700 block of Nautilus Street.

Paramedics pronounced Baxter dead at the scene at 2:45 a.m., according to San Diego police Sgt. David Jennings, who said it was not immediately clear whether alcohol or speed may have been a factor in the crash.

Baxter was alone in the car, Jennings said.
