School Board Members in DC to Lobby for Stimulus Money

Posted: Updated:
As the debate over President Obama's stimulus plan is debated, two San Diego Unified School District board members were in Washington, D.C., to lobby legislators for a portion of it.

Board members Sheila Jackson and John Lee Evens are working to secure more than $120 million for the SDUSD.

According to a statement from the district, the board members planned to describe to legislators the economic hardships facing the district and encourage them to invest in education.

"The stimulus debt we incur today will have to be paid off by the students in our schools today," Jackson said in a statement. "We owe it to them to provide the education and skills necessary to pay off this debt."

House Democrats passed an $819 billion economic stimulus package last week. The proposal now goes before the Senate.
