Tolls Could Be Reinstated For Coronado Bridge

Posted: Updated:
Tolls could be making a comeback on the Coronado Bay Bridge.

The city and the San Diego Association of Governments held a public meeting Thursday night to discuss collecting tolls from drivers on the bridge.

The meeting featured photos of traffic jams on the bridge when there were three carriers at NAS North Island. One jam backed up traffic all the way to Interstates 5 and 15 and Route 163.

Officials said collecting the tolls could fund projects like a tunnel that could help ease traffic gridlock.

Bridge tolls were collected for 33 years, ending in June 2002.
