Ramona Man Will Not Rent Home to Convicted Sex Offender

Posted: Updated:

After backlash from angry neighbors, a Ramona man says his deal with a state contractor to house a convicted sex offender is now off.

Charles Koppa tore up his contract with Liberty Healthcare in front of news cameras Thursday evening.

Koppa is also returning Liberty's $7,000 deposit to rent his home along Highway 67 to Matthew Hedge.

Koppa insists Liberty never told him Hedge is a sexually violent predator.

"If I had known one minute before this contract was sent back that there was a violent sexual predator, I would have said, explain that to me," Koppa said.
