Female Defendant In Vinge Kidnapping Released From Jail

Posted: Updated:

Only two of the three teens accused of kidnapping and beating a La Mesa grandmother will go to trial.   76-year-old Sandy Vinge would have died in the trunk of her own car if police hadn't pulled the trio over.  But the judge in the preliminary hearing ruled that there's not enough evidence to charge 19-year-old Antoinette Baker.

Baker was released from Vista jail around 9:30pm Wednesday.  Family and friends held a sheet and jacket over her head as they rushed to a waiting car.  Baker refused to comment to the media.

Baker told police she suspected the car was stolen, but didn't realize a woman was in the trunk when she left with the two men to "go get drunk."

19-year-old Jeffrey Nelson and 18-year-old Luis Osborne will both stand trial on kidnapping and elder abuse charges.  They'll be back in court next month.
