Community Forum To Discuss Carmel Valley Home Invasion Robberies

Posted: Updated:

Two recent home invasion robberies were the topic of a community forum in Carmel Valley Thursday night where police announced one man has been detained as a person of interest.

Police are trying to determine if two home invasions in Carmel Valley are connected. The most recent incident happened Wednesday when a man with a knife accosted a Carmel Valley resident in her garage. Then forced her into her home, where he bound and sexually assaulted her and slashed her arm before fleeing with her purse.

The robbery and assault in the 3700 block of Carmel View Road was reported about 12:30 p.m., according to San Diego police.

The 33-year-old victim was treated for a cut to one of her wrists, SDPD Sgt. Alan Hayward said.

She described the assailant as a roughly 5-foot-7-inch Latino man who appeared to be in his 30s, wearing dark-colored clothing, gloves, a baseball cap and sunglasses.

Detectives say a similar crime happened during a home invasion on Whispering Hills Lane three weeks ago.

Now, the police department has increased its patrols there, according to Lt. Kevin Ammon of the SDPD Robbery Unit.

No further information was released about the man police were questioning Thursday night.

Officers warn residents not to open their garage doors before getting inside their cars and to be aware of their surroundings when pulling inside an open garage.
