The prosecution will begin to present its case Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of murdering Oceanside police officer Dan Bessant.
During opening arguments Monday, prosecutors said Meki Gaono was one of three gang members who fired at the officer during a traffic stop back in December 2006.
Gaono is accused of firing the shot that killed Bessant.
"Took this .22 rifle, leaned on a mailbox, looked through the scope, put the crosshairs of the scope on Officer Bessant's head, and in his own words, fired six to seven times at the officer."
Penifoti Taeotui was convicted in November of first degree murder for his role in the shooting.
Charges were dismissed against a third suspect, after a judge ruled there wasn't enough evidence.
