Monique Griego is a general assignment reporter for KFMB-TV in San Diego, California.

“The most rewarding stories are when you meet people who feel hopeless with nowhere to turn and we’re able to get them answers or the help they need.”

Reporter Monique Griego joined the News 8 team from KPNX, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona where she served as weekend anchor and host of the station’s Most Wanted crime series.

She also covered, wildfires, flooding, Super Bowl XLIX, while also making it her mission to help animals in need.

As a rescue animal advocate, she’s brought attention to numerous animal cruelty cases and supported animal rescues through her reporting and outside efforts.

The station jokingly used to say she had the “dog” beat.

This Phoenix native earned a bachelor’s degree from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Arizona State University.

She launched her reporting career at KTSM in El Paso, Texas, where she covered border issues and traveled to Juarez, Mexico on multiple occasions to cover cartel violence and was promoted to morning anchor.

Monique landed her next job at the CBS affiliate at WJZ in Baltimore, Maryland, where she learned what it was like to live in real weather, covering hurricanes, blizzards, flooding and the east coast earthquake of 2011.

Thrilled to be reporting under San Diego’s sunny skies and enjoying our climate in her spare time, Monique loves vintage shopping, walking her dogs, Rocco and Runt, hiking and paddle boarding with her husband and of course eating!  Trying new restaurants is a must for her, so make sure and say hello if you see her around town.
