Milkin’ San Diego: Paczki at Donut Bar for Fat Tuesday

SAN DIEGO — Did someone say... Pączki?!

I managed to find Pączki in San Diego just in time for Fat Tuesday! And if you don’t know what they are, we can’t be friends. Just kidding! 😉

They’re deep-fried pieces of dough filled with something sweet like plum jam or rose petal and sprinkled with powdered sugar. In Poland (and in cities with big Polish communities like Chicago) Pączki are eaten on Fat Thursday (Tłusty Czwartek) the last Thursday before Ash Wednesday. We also eat them on Fat Tuesday.

The traditional reason for making Pączki is to use up all the lard, sugar and eggs before fasting for Lent. #pączkiday.

I visited the Donut Bar in downtown San Diego to see if they can make the Pączki.
