EL CAJON (NEWS 8) — Crews responded Friday evening to the scene of a fiery crash involving a semi-truck and a car in El Cajon. CHP confirmed to News 8 there was at least one fatality as a result.

The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the eastbound side of Interstate 8 over Marshall Avenue.

Witnesses told CHP that a  white sedan lost control after being cut off by another driver, hit the center median, then went across all lanes of the freeway before it became wedged underneath the semi and was dragged for a time.

The semi caught fire, but the driver was able to separate the cab from the rest of the truck.

The victim was trapped in the white sedan underneath the burning trailer and died at the scene.

The driver of the semi was reportedly uninjured.

Three of the highway's four lanes were shut down for hours Friday night.
