SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A boat carrying 14 suspected undocumented immigrants was towed Tuesday to a lifeguard dock in Mission Bay, where U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents were waiting, lifeguards said.

A citizen at Sunset Cliffs reported the panga-type vessel about 6:20 a.m., San Diego lifeguard Lt. Andy Lerum said.

The occupants were jumping from the vessel about 100 yards offshore, but lifeguards put them back into the boat for safety reasons, said Border Patrol Agent Scott Simon. The boat was towed to Quivira Basin, where the suspected illegal immigrants were turned over to Border Patrol agents.
