JACUMBA (CNS) - Two children were injured Friday, one seriously, when a vehicle veered out of control and overturned on westbound Interstate 8 in the far southeastern reaches of San Diego County, authorities reported.

The single-vehicle wreck near Carrizo Gorge in the Jacumba area occurred about 1:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

An emergency-services helicopter was sent to the remote area to pick up the more seriously injured juvenile, and a ground ambulance was dispatched for the other, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Nick Schuler said. Both were transported to Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego. Their ages and genders were not immediately available.

The accident left one lane blocked on the freeway for about two hours, the CHP reported.
