SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three men who were drinking beer outside a San Diego apartment complex were stabbed Sunday.

The victims were near 14th Street and C Street in San Diego's Alta Vista neighborhood about 1:15 p.m. when they were approached by four men and an argument ensued between the two groups, San Diego Police Officer Frank Cali said.

One of the suspects pulled out a machete and stabbed a man twice on the side and another once in the back. The third victim, who tried to stop the attacker, was stabbed in the arm, Cali said.

The three victims drove themselves to a local hospital where they were in stable condition, he said.

The four suspects fled the scene.
