3 teens seriously hurt after car slams into La Jolla cafe

LA JOLLA (CNS) - Three teenagers were hospitalized Monday with serious injuries and a 67-year-old man accused of striking them with his car before plowing into a La Jolla restaurant was under arrest on suspicion of felony drunken driving, police said.

The suspected drunken driver was headed southbound in the 5500 block of La Jolla Boulevard at around 7 p.m. Sunday when his Chrysler ran off the road and struck three teenaged pedestrians, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros
said.

After striking the teens, the man crashed into The Cass Street Cafe & Bakery, injuring two adults inside, he said.

One of the adult patrons was treated at a hospital and released, the other suffered minor injuries and did not go to the hospital, according to Delimitros.

The three teen-aged pedestrians struck were taken to Rady Children's Hospital, with "serious injuries," Delimitros said, adding that they were between the ages of 14 and 17.
